AUGUSTA ? Walter H. Manwell, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Winthrop, March 18, 1925, the son of Clyde and Mary (Thaanum) Manwell. Walter attended schools in North Monmouth, Winthrop, Orono and Moodus, Conn. He served with the Army infantry during World War II and Korea. He was employed as foreman at Tex-Tech Industries in North Monmouth, retiring in 1987 after 33 years. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Manwell in 1995. He is survived by his stepson, Gary Plossay of Readfield; a brother, C. Norman Manwell and his wife, Carolyn, of Winthrop; a sister, Joan Leach of Winter Springs, Fla.; and six grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in June at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. Memorial contributions may be made to Maine Veterans Home, Alzheimers Unit, 310 Cony Road, Augusta 04330. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, Winthrop.
