WAYNE ? Warren C. Wells, 80, of Strickland Ferry Road, Wayne, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at his home, with his wife at his side. He was born in North Wayne, Feb. 21, 1921, the son of Archie D. and Winona (Bickford) Wells. Warren attended school in Wayne and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He married Wilhelmina Pettengill in 1947. They had a marriage of 55 years. Mr. Wells was a dairy farmer for many years on his farm in Wayne, later working as the caretaker for the George and Helen Ladd Estate until his retirement in 1986. Warren was a very active person, enjoying hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening until his recent illness prevented him from doing the things he loved. In recent years, he did get to enjoy listening to the Red Sox in his gazebo. Mr. Wells was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Wells, and a sister, Alice Wing. He is survived by his wife; a son, Lindsay Wells, of Wayne; two daughters, Brenda Joseph, and her husband, George, of Fayette, and Lori Carlson, of Westbrook; four grandchildren, Judith Carlson, of Boston, Jessica Carlson, of Alexandria, Va., and Hannah Joseph and Lydia Joseph, both of Fayette. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, with the Rev. Eric Dupee officiating. Warren's ashes will be buried at the Gott Cemetery in the spring.
