WAYNE - William J. Lalis, 89, of Wayne died on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at his home. He was born on Feb. 20, 1915, in New York, N.Y., the son of Samuel and Irma (Lancos) Lalis. He grew up in and around New York and graduated from Columbia University. He worked as an accountant for Warner Bros. for more than 25 years. His career was interrupted by service in the Army during World War II. Bill was quite proud of his service in the cavalry. After the war, Mr. Lalis returned to work for Warner Bros. until his retirement in 1971. He and his wife, Marie, moved to Maine and settled in Wayne. He was active as a member of the Wayne Board of Appeals and was a founding member of the Lovejoy Pond Improvement Association. He was also active in the Maine Disabled American Veterans chapter at Togus. Bill was predeceased by five sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Tinkhauser) Lalis; a daughter, Veronica M. Clauss and her husband, Charles M., of Wayne; a sister, Helen Harrison of Denville, Calif.; and two grandsons, Craig Clauss of Manassas, Va., and Brad H. Clauss of New Brunswick, N.J. Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Blanchette, celebrant.
