Adelaide Writer Breen passed from this world Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the age of 91. Known to all as Addie, she was surrounded by family and loving friends.
Addie and Eddie, her husband of 62 years, retired to Readfield, Maine in 1989. Upon Eddie's passing, Addie moved to Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell. There she enjoyed playing bridge and making music with old and new friends.
Addie was the only child of Ruth A. and Charles W. Writer. She grew up in Sussex, New Jersey, a rural community founded by her ancestors.
She graduated from Trenton State Teachers College and spent several years establishing and enhancing music programs in schools throughout Sussex and Bergen counties.
She was a loving wife, a devoted daughter, and an exceptional mom. But her life might best be defined from behind a keyboard. She was playing the piano when she met Eddie. She lent her talents to countless community and charity events. She brought happiness to many – mostly those in nursing homes. She headed up the Book 'N Needle singers (NJ), performing roughly 60 programs every year for 17 years. She also founded The Notables (ME).
Addie was a flag-waving patriot who proudly proclaimed her love of the USA. She may have been the original star-spangled girl!
Addie leaves behind a daughter Amy (Andrew) Fisher of New Jersey and their children Samantha and Max; and a son Peter (Birgitta) of Pennsylvania and their children Jake (Caitlan) and Daniel (Samantha). They loved and respected her immeasurably and will miss her contributions to their lives.
Addies memorial service is planned for the residents of Granite Hill Estates on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10:30 AM.
Arrangements are in the care of the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, where condolences and memories may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website by visiting www.khrfuneralhomes.com
