TOGUS - Aleo J. Soucy, 85, formerly of West Gardiner died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Veterans' Administration Hospital, Togus, after a long illness. He was born in Caribou on Oct. 26, 1922, the son of John Medley Soucy and Helen (Cote) Soucy. Aleo served in the Army during World War II. He was active in Disabled American Veterans and was past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had worked for the Selective Service and was also a crossing guard at Hussey School until his retirement. Aleo was an avid gardener, snowshoer, cross country skier, woodworker and, most especially, an excellent ballroom dancer. He loved the out-of-doors and we all enjoyed his bean hole beans at camp. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Doris Soucy; three sisters, Gertrude Arbour, Rita Rollins and Gloria McLeod; and two brothers, Phillip and Maurice Soucy. He is survived by two daughters, Tracy Ann (Soucy) Pruyne, of Eliot, and Sheila Lane, of Dixfield; a son, Aleo John Soucy, of Portsmouth, N.H.; three sisters, Agnes Weston and Theresa Chaplin, of Augusta, and Evelyn Chaplin and her husband, Guy, of Chelsea; his stepsons, Bryce Ingraham and his wife, Maryann, of Saco, and A. Scott Ingraham and his wife, Kim, of Augusta; stepdaughter Carol Michaud and her husband, Michael; also 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. www.khrfuneral homes.com
