JAY -- Arlene Mattie Crosby Grover, 82, of Lavoie Street died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Heritage Manor and Living Center, Winthrop. She was born in Farmington on May 6, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Christine (Gilbert) Crosby Sr. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School, class of 1940. She worked as a waitress after high school at the Androscoggin House in Wayne for seven years. She later worked at Livermore Shoe for 15 years and then for five years at Supreme Slipper in Lewiston. In 1943 she married Richard Grover in Auburn. Arlene was a member of the Methodist Church in Livermore Falls and Norlands Grange. She enjoyed gardening, lawn sales and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the many cats she had throughout her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, in 1989; daughter Susan in 1997; her brothers Vernon Crosby (1954), Edmund Crosby (2000), George Crosby (World War II, Pearl Harbor, 1942) and Lawrence Parlin; sister Thelma Maxim; and a niece, Germaine Castonguay. She is survived by her son, Robert Grover and his wife, Jo-Ellen, of Manchester; her grandchildren, Kevin Grover of Turner, Kristie Grover of Fayette and Brian Grover and his wife, Amy, of Vienna. Also her great-grandchildren, Genevieve and Aaron Grover of Turner, JoAnn and Nikolas Grover of Fayette, and Garrett, Natalie and Daniel Grover of Vienna; her sisters, Joicey Gosselin of Jay and Lillian Cote of Livermore Falls; brothers Charles Crosby of Lewiston and Gilbert Maxim of Monmouth; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visiting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Quaker Cemetery, Leeds. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
