WINTHROP - Arthur Woodrow Nobis, 85, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in New York City on Dec. 29, 1918, the son of Carrie and George Nobis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army, and participated and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, after which he received a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked at Bonafide Mills and Inmont Mills. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in his later years enjoyed visiting his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marcia Z. (Tarbox) Nobis of Winthrop; his daughter, Carole F. Ricker and her husband, Norman E., of Winthrop; and one niece, Karen Worster. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Roberts Funeral Home, 64 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, followed by a reception at the home of his daughter at 76 Cottage Road in Winthrop. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
