NORTH WAYNE - Audrey M. Goucher, 72, of North Wayne died peacefully at her home, Monday, April 14, 2008. She was born in Yarmouth Nov. 13, 1935, the eldest daughter of Floyd and Marjorie (Rhodes) Murray. They lived in Yarmouth and, later, Saco for a short time. She moved to North Wayne in 1944 and had made her life there ever since. Audrey was a 1953 graduate of Winthrop High School and married Theodore 'Ted' Goucher Dec. 12, 1956. Together, they operated a logging, forest products and excavation business for many years. She also gave 33 years of loyal service to the citizens of Wayne as treasurer, town clerk, registrar of voters and tax collector. Audrey was a longstanding member of the North Wayne Triangle Club; an active member of the Maranacook Boosters Club in the 1970s and 1980s, the Wayne Fire Department Auxiliary and the Home and School Association; an active member and past president of the Maine Municipal Association; member of the Wayne Planning Board; a longstanding member of the North Wayne Church; was involved in the Wayne Schoolhouse restoration project; and, for the last 25 years, was a passionate tennis player. Mrs. Goucher was predeceased by her husband, Ted, in June 1997. She is survived by her children, Lee Goucher and his wife, Ann, of North Wayne, and Tanya Evans and her husband, Randy, of North Wayne; her brother, Ronald Murray and his wife, Doris, of Fayette; her sister, Barbara Frost and her husband, Merle, of Winthrop; her four beloved grandchildren, Katie and Delaney Evans, and Amanda and Kody Lee Goucher; her brothers-in-law, Phillip Goucher, of Mount Vernon, Gerald 'Stub' Goucher and his wife, Joyce, of North Wayne, Douglas Goucher and his wife, June, of Winthrop, Gregory Goucher and his wife, Cindy, of Mount Vernon, and Stephen Goucher and his wife, Jeannie, of Sabattus; her sisters-in-law, Joan Varney and her husband, Harland, of Vienna, Phyllis Ross, of Readfield, and Robin Reed and her husband, Skip, of Winthrop; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and her friends. A memorial celebration of Audrey's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the North Wayne Church. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions in her memory to the North Wayne Community Church, 10 Church St., Wayne, ME 04284.
