With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Austin Thomas Bechard, who passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2026- a pillar of strength and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Austin was born on April 24, 1994, to Daniel and Bobby-Jo Bechard. As the firstborn, he carried a natural sense of responsibility and protectiveness, always looking out for those he loved. His family meant everything to him, and he loved them deeply and wholeheartedly. He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Bobby-Jo Bechard; his siblings, Brandyn Bechard, Chase Bechard, and Gabi Bechard; his Aunt Sam; and a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins- too many to name, but all deeply loved. He is also remembered by close family friends, as well as the countless friendships he formed throughout his life. Austin attended Hall-Dale schools from pre-K through graduation, where he was a proud Bulldog filled with school spirit. He was a talented athlete, known for his strength and skill on both the soccer field, where he served as Senior Captain, and the basketball court, where he was selected as a Maine McDonald’s All-Star his senior year, bringing heart and determination to every game he played. Shortly after high school, Austin chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he became a Military Police Officer. He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was later stationed at Fort Drum, New York. He was deployed to Afghanistan, where he carried out his role with courage and dedication. During his service, Austin earned many recognitions and served with pride and a deep commitment to protecting and supporting others. Austin was funny, kind, genuine, and unapologetically himself. He had a way of making people laugh, and he was always the light in every room he walked into. He was a protector by nature- steady, strong, and always willing to show up for those he loved. He worked as a skilled roofer in the construction industry, helping build and repair roofs- quietly making sure others had a safe place to call home. His work ethic reflected who he was: reliable, hardworking, and committed Outside of work, Austin loved music, collected movies, and enjoyed watching and playing sports. He spent as much time as he could outdoors- whether hiking, snowboarding, or simply walking and taking in the world around him. He found peace and joy in being active and outside. Austin leaves behind a deep sense of love, strength, and connection that will continue to live on through all who knew him.

A service to honor Austin’s life will be held at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home on Friday, April 24, at 4:00 PM. A VA burial service will follow, with details to be announced.
