Mt. Vernon-Barbara Somers, 92, of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, December 10, 2017 at her home on the hill where she lived for 92 years. Barbara was born February 8, 1925 in Mt. Vernon the daughter of Elbridge and Marion (Thompson) Jones. She grew up in Mt. Vernon, attending Mt. Vernon schools and Kents Hill School. Barbara met Clayton Somers of Caribou and they married on June 23, 1943. She was a homemaker and loved cooking for and spending time with her family. Barbara was a member of the International Order of the Rebekahs for 76 years and a member of the Mill Stream Grange #574 in Vienna for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Clayton Somers, who died on July 23, 2006. She is survived by her daughters Marjorie Cook and husband Herbert of Strong and Nancy LaRue and husband Ronald of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren Lisa Goucher, Clayton Hall, Darrell Hall, Frank Hall III; ten great-grandchildren Julie and Megan Goucher, Ashley Hardy, Aaron, Caleb and Carl Hall, Andrew, Abby, and Peter Hall, and Nasasha Hall; ten great-great-grandchildren Fenway Lowe, Max & Marion Pratt, Warren, Caleb, and Hannah Hardy, little Peter Hall and Garrett, little Andrew Hall, and Tegan; brother in law Eddie Somers and wife Diane and nephew little Eddie; nieces Lynn Hopkins, Cathy Givens, and Joannie Lowe; special neighbors Don and Rose Laliberte; Roy Twist, who went above and beyond for our mother and grandmother; beloved cat Lucy; and many extended family and friends. A graveside celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in the spring in Bean Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.
