READFIELD - Beatrice E. Ridley, 93, of Church Road, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born in Manchester on July 31, 1917, the daughter of Leroy and Ruth (Saucaster) Cottle. A homemaker for most of her life, Beatrice worked as a housekeeper and took care of children in her earlier years. She was an active and outgoing person who enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, cutting and splitting wood, picking blueberries and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends. She was a member of the Golden Guys and Gals Club in Readfield. She was predeceased by two sons, Joseph F. Ridley (1992) and Carroll A. Ridley Jr. (1984); and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Elida M. Williams, and her husband, Roger, of North Monmouth, Linda A. Dyer and her husband, David, of Winthrop, Jeanette L. Ayotte, and her husband, Edward Jr., of Mount Vernon, Marilyn A. Stratton, and her husband, Larry, of Readfield, and Larry Ridley, and his wife, Caroline, of Winthrop; 13 grandchildren, John Currier and Tony Currier, both of Mount Vernon, Calvin Dyer and his wife, Alison, of Farmingdale, Veronica Dyer of South Monmouth, Edward Ayotte III and his wife, Sharon, of Mount Vernon, Ellie McElhaney and her husband, Kevin, of Fort Myers, Fla., Michael Ayotte and his wife, Eran, of Mount Vernon, Larry Stratton and his companion, Crystal Hanson, of Augusta, Matthew Stratton, and his companion, Heidi Radcliff, of Chelsea, Jason Ridley and Felicia Ridley, both of Winthrop, Joseph Ridley Jr. of Livermore and Heidi Ridley of Gardiner; a brother, Leslie Cottle, of Gardiner, and a sister, Clara Crochere, of Windsor; daughter-in-law Louise Ridley of Whitefield; also 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Beatrice and Carroll's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Hope Baptist Church, U.S. Route 202, Manchester. Burial will occur in the Readfield Corner Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Guys and Gals Club, Inc., P.O. Box 202, Readfield, ME 04355.
