HALLOWELL ? Beatricia Durgin Brown, 73, died of cancer Sunday, June 23, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Wolfboro, N.H., May 21, 1929, the daughter of Gordon Durgin and Beatrice Webster Flanders. As a child, she enjoyed spending time with her sister, Edith, on Lake Winnipesaukee. She graduated from Erskine Academy in 1946. She worked in the Hallowell Shoe Factory and as a telephone operator in Bridgeport, Conn. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, as she had very special relationships with each of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting Maine's coast and lakes. She always looked forward to her annual trip to her hometown of Wolfeboro. Beatricia had a ready smile and was always available to help others. She had a strong sense of fairness and was very outspoken on issues of injustice. Her wit and sense of humor will not be forgotten. She was predeceased by her sister, Edith Durgin Leighton. She will be sadly missed by her children, Hope Atwater and her husband, Michael, of Augusta, Forest Brown Jr. and his companion, Christine Taylor, of Augusta, Vicki Brown and her companion, Rick Talbot, of East Winthrop, and April Sheets and her companion, Steve Soule, of Farmingdale; her stepfather, Calvin Flanders, of North Whitefield; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Relatives and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Peter Inchcombe officiating.
