MANCHESTER - Bertha W. Babb, 105, died Monday, June, 4, 2007 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Graybirch Dr., Augusta after a short battle with cancer. She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick on January 20, 1902, the daughter of Daniel and Emma (Densmore) Watters. Bertha was educated in St. Stephen, New Brunswick schools before coming to the United States in 1932. She married Fred Babb in 1934 and became a United States Citizen in 1937. The Babbs lived in Augusta and later settled in Manchester. She was a member of Rose of Sharon Eastern Star and attended the Manchester Community Church for many years. Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1983 and also by her brothers, Hazen Watters of Toronto, Ontario, Henry Watters of St. Stephen, New Brunswick and Arthur Watters of Manchester She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mabel Watters, and a niece, Linda Henderson, both of Moncton, New Brunswick, as well as longtime friends, Annette Peabody of Manchester and Nan & Ed Welch of South Conway, New Hampshire. There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Bertha's life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 8, at the Manchester Community Church, with Rev. Ernie Johnson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be held graveside at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 11, at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manchester Community Church, P.O. Box 23, Manchester 04351.
