Augusta- Beth Marie Gurney, 71, of Claire Street died on July 3, 2026, following an extended illness.

Beth was born in Augusta, ME the daughter of Lloyd and Marjorie Hewett, growing up in Somerville and Jefferson, graduating from Lincoln Academy. Beth finally settled and made her home in Augusta.

She was a long-time, devoted employee of NRF Distributors for many years where she made great friendships and strived every day to make the workplace a more positive environment for everyone.

She was the life of the party, always joking and laughing. Everyone naturally gravitated to her because of her fun loving and caring nature. She loved to read books, sometimes almost finishing a book the same night she started it. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where she served on the woman’s auxiliary and always contributed to any of the Eagles fundraising charity events. Her greatest love was her family. She was a proud mother and would do anything for her children.

Beth was predeceased by her husband, John Gurney; son-in-law, Chaz Gray; brother-in-law, Charlie Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Jessi Gray; son, Brooks Gurney; siblings, Ann Martin, Jean and her husband Bill Clark, Peter and his wife Diane Hewett; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
