FARMINGDALE- Betty S. Gifford, 73, of Ridgeway Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge. She was born in Augusta, on Jan. 17, 1928, the daughter of George and Nellie (Morrison) Shaw. Betty attended Cony High School and had worked for Maxcy Insurance Agency, in Gardiner. She had been a teller at Gardiner Savings Institution, Gardiner, and most recently was a secretary for Wadleigh?s, in Hallowell. She was a member of the Christ Church Episcopal, in Gardiner, the Augusta Country Club and was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. Betty enjoyed sailing, knitting, music, dancing, skiing, travel, arts and crafts and being with her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth R. Gifford, in 1993, and a brother, George W. Shaw. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine P. Dow, of Bowdoinham, Cynthia D. Hickey and Cheryl L. Bilodeau, both of Litchfield; five step-sons, Wayne Gifford and Donn Gifford, of Readfield, Todd Gifford, of Monmouth, Tedd Gifford, of Standish, and Ronn Gifford, of Kents Hill; a brother, Carl Mason, of Weeks Mills; a sister, Virginia Perkins, of Gardiner; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, with Rev. Jacob Fles, officiating. Burial will be in Maine Avenue Cemetery, Farmingdale.
