AUGUSTA- Carolyn Whitney Thorne, 97, died Monday, April 8, 2024 at Androscoggin Home Healthcare & Hospice House after a brief illness.

She was born in Jonesboro on Feb. 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Dewey and Grace (White) Whitney.

Carolyn resided in Pittston for nearly 50 years before moving to Augusta, where she lived for the last 9 years.

Carolyn was an avid reader and cross puzzler who remained active and independent right up until her recent illness. A beloved mother, she will be dearly missed and always remembered by all who loved her.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice House for the great care she received for the short time she was with them.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Charles Thorne.

She is survived by her four children, Grace Thorne of Odenton, MD, Charles Thorne & wife Susanna of Somerville, Wendell Thorne of Sarasota, FL and Lynn Tatro of Augusta, along with 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Carolyn will be interred with her beloved Charles at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta.
