Obituary

AUGUSTA - Charles D. Lewis, 61, of Augusta and Northport, died peacefully at his home Friday, May 12, 2006. He was born in Belfast, Sept. 25, 1944, the son of Drexel and Annie (Curtis) Lewis. After high school, he served in the Army. He was in the service for eight years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his time in the Army, Charles attained the rank of Specialist 5 and earned several decorations, including the Bronze Star. Mr. Lewis worked at several jobs after leaving the service and last worked for the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Charles was predeceased by his father, his sisters, Louise Hill and Patricia Bailey, and his infant brother, Henry. He is survived by his wife, Judie (Holmes) Lewis; his mother, Annie Lewis; his brother, Wayne Lewis; his sister, Roberta Ghant and her husband, Brad; his daughter, Sonya Lewis; a son, Charles Lewis II and his wife, Misty; his stepchildren, Wendy Gardner and her husband, Jay, and Jeff Bridges and his wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Samantha Lewis and Andrew Akles and step-grandchildren, Corey Harris, Vanessa Gardner, Amber Bridges and Hannah Bridges. All services for Charles will be private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.
