Obituary

Mount Vernon- Claudia (Krause) Ljunggren, 73, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion in Lewiston on Monday, July 26, 2021, after living a happy and fulfilled life. She was born in Worcester Massachusetts on November 1, 1947, to the late Wesley and Eleanora Krause. Claudia grew up with the late Mario and Mary Chilorio who she considered her second parents. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester MA in 1965 and Career Academy in New York City in 1966. October 11, 1969, she married her soulmate Jon W. Ljunggren at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester, MA. They moved to Vienna in 1976 with their daughter Cathy. Claudia went to work at the Augusta Mental Health Institute, where she was a mental health worker for over 20 years. She especially enjoyed working with the children in the adolescent unit. Claudia was very active in the Vienna Community. She spent 30 years on the Vienna Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved to help with the fundraisers, especially the annual chicken BBQ and hunter's supper. She was a part of the North Vienna United Methodist Church; where she helped create a faith-based after-school program for the children called Creation Station. She was active in this program for over 20 years. She was also a girl scout leader and Vienna town clerk. Claudia's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, and Aleah. She loved dotting on them, and you would often read about them and their adventures in the Franklin Journal, for which she wrote a weekly column about Vienna and Mt. Vernon news and local interest stories for many years. She also enjoyed reading and traveling. Claudia had a travel bucket list which she was able to fulfill with Jon and Cathy. Together they traveled several times out west where Claudia always wanted to put her feet in the Mississippi, travel to Mount Rushmore, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole Wyoming, the Continental Divide, and travel south to visit Walt Disney World- check! They also spent many summers camping on the coast of Maine and frequently spent time on Cape Cod. Claudia is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jon; her daughter, Cathy Dunn and her husband Matthew; grandson, Tyler Dunn and his girlfriend Christine Collins; granddaughters, Kaitlynn Dunn and Aleah; her sister, Camille Laliberte; her brother, Paul Krause and his wife Janet; her sister Kathleen Powers; her brother Russell and wife Pamela; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her grandson, Michael Wesley Dunn; her parents Wesley and Eleanora Krause and Mario and Mary Chiliorio; brothers Michael and Jeffery Krause; and sister Melanie Sewell. The family of Claudia would like to send their heartfelt thank you and gratitude for the loving care that was provided by d'Youville 4 East team and Beacon Hospice. They would also like to thank the Mt. Vernon Fire Department and Rescue and Winthrop Ambulance Service. A graveside service will be held at the Franklin Cemetery on the Tower Road in Vienna on Saturday, August 7 at 11 am, with Pastor Laura Church officiating. A remembrance of Claudia's life will be held immediately after the service at the North Vienna United Methodist Church.
