MOUNT VERNON - Clyde George Clough, 86, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Inland Hospital in Waterville. He was born in Mount Vernon on Jan. 5, 1919, the son of George C. and Edith (Blanchard) Clough. He attended Mount Vernon and Kents Hill schools and graduated from Bridge Academy in 1934. He later attended Bates College for two years. Clyde was a lifetime resident of Mount Vernon, where he owned and operated a dairy farm for 39 years. He contributed to his civic duties by serving two terms on the board of selectmen in Mount Vernon. Clyde married Alice Copp and was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years on Jan. 9, 2001. He was also predeceased by a son, Roger Malcom Clough; four brothers, Archie, Scott, Ralph and Carroll; and three sisters, Leone, Ardis and Winnefred. He is survived by a daughter, Bernice (Clough) Hall and her husband, Charles, of South Portland; two sons, Clyde H. Clough of Mount Vernon and Arnold G. Clough and his wife, Lillian, of Buckfield; two sisters, Alma Stilphen of Pittston and Elizabeth Phelps of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dunns Corner Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade in the spring.
