Obituary

Cynthia Jeann (Webster) McPherson passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023 after a brief illness, at the age of 94. She spent her last week surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born December 12, 1928 to Marie Odelie (Lerette) Webster and Clifton Blaisdell Webster, one of six children. She grew up and spent her entire life in Hallowell, Maine. Cynthia met the love of her life, Harry W. McPherson at Hallowell High School when he returned from service in the South Pacific during World War II. They were married in 1947 and raised their 11 children in Hallowell on a small farm near their loving extended families. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2001. Cynthia was full of life and energy, always smiling and happy, and remarkably selfless. She loved all children, visiting with her family, reading, watching her kids and extended family playing sports of all kinds, sitting outside the farmhouse with an iced tea, growing plants, sewing, and knitting, and especially baking biscuits and cookies with her grandchildren. She worked for many years at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, where she made treasured friendships. Cynthia also started her own business, Knitting in the Round, making beautiful knits on circular needles. After she retired, she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and teaching knitting to her friends at the Cohen Center and the Cotton Mill Apartments, where she spent time in the company of many wonderful and caring friends. Cynthia is survived by her eleven children: Diane, Harold, Scott, Bill, Jenny Dalbeck, Ginger, Pete, Andy, Alan, Heather Pelletier, and Kathleen Fairfield, several sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and scores of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins on the Webster and McPherson sides of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 11, at 11:00 am at the Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell, followed by a lunch reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cynthia's name to the Travis Mills Foundation in support of veteran wellbeing. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, One Church St., Augusta, where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com
