AUGUSTA- Daniel R. Roach,68, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Dan was born November 17, 1954, in Lewiston. He is the son of the late John and Lucille (Castonguay) Roach.
Dan served 4 years in the US Army. After being honorably discharged he spent time traveling. Some of the places he visited were Ireland, Germany, Holland and the Philippines. He enjoyed meeting people (he could strike up a conversation with anyone and about anything). He loved learning about the culture and experiencing foods original to these countries.
He worked for several years at the Muskie School of Public Service in Portland and was usually enrolled in some sort of academics himself.
He was a proud grandpa to his grandchildren Takumi and Miyabi.
Dan was an avid reader and lifelong learner.
He is survived by his son Robert and grandchildren Takumi and Miyabi. His uncle Roger J. Castonguay, cousins Pauline Dubois (Roger), Marc Castonguay (Rena), Anita Jalbert (Patrick), Rolande Truchon (Thomas), Joline Beaudoin, Jeannine Roy (Paul), Roger Castonguay (Wanda) and Nicole Matthews (Edward).
Dan was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Florien and Rosa Castonguay, aunts Patricia Castonguay, Cecile Castonguay. And special friends Elise and David are among many friends and colleagues from the Muskie School.
Dan's graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 1:00PM at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 129 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta, where he will receive military honors. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
