AUGUSTA - David E. van Ingen, 52, of Eastern Avenue died early Sunday morning, Sept. 6, 2009, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after a battle with liver disease. He was born in Orange County, Calif., on Feb. 13, 1957, adopted son of the late Klaas van Ingen and Louise (Lambert) van Ingen. David graduated from El Dorado High School in Placentia, Calif., in 1975, and attended college at California State University in Chico. He was a manager for Tower Records in the Los Angeles area. In the late 1980s, he moved to Nashville and married his first wife, Vicki Rowland, in 1989. They divorced in 1993. David worked in the sales and production side of the music business: Central South Music Sales, Select-o-Hits, Music City Record Distributors and Sound Impressions. The last place he worked was Southwest Airlines in Nashville. He moved to what he called the frozen tundra of Maine in spring 2008. He was a movie collector and an exceptional trivia game player. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing fantasy sports. He followed the Angels and Yankees, Oakland Raiders, and his favorite hockey team, the Nashville Predators. He had a love of the ocean, music, history and life. David had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit. He also enjoyed a good political debate. He is survived by the love of his life, Debora Whitten, of Augusta, whom he married on Sept. 20, 2008, in Augusta; his mother, Louise Christian, of Fullerton, Calif.; a sister, Catharine van Ingen; mother-in-law and father- in-law Donald and Faye Whitten; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Bachman, Susan Romero, Rebecca Whitten and Sarah Whitten; two brothers-in-law, Jamie Plourd and Danny Schlaefer; nephew Daniel Bachman; and niece Rachel Romero. A celebration of his life will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.
