Obituary for Maurice D. Dandeneau
WINTHROP - Maurice Denis Dandeneau, or Denis as he liked to be called, was called home to his Lord and Saviour on August 7th, 2021. He was born in West Warwick, Rhode Island on March 8th, 1942, to Gerard M. and Jeanne (Sevigny) Dandeneau. He graduated from West Warwick High School and New England Technical College.
Denis served in the United States Air Force in the 1960s and after his discharge he went to work for the Electrical department of General Dynamics on nuclear submarines. He later spent 33 years as manager of the QA Electrical Engineering Laboratory of Leviton Manufacturing. Denis served the Red Cross for 30 years as Disaster coordinator and Treasurer for the Central Rhode Island Red Cross Chapter, and then the Statewide Disaster Coordinator for the West Bay Region. During his services with the Red Cross Denis received awards from the Rhode Island State Fire Marshall and the United States Congress for his dedication and service.
Denis was a firefighter for the Warwick Fire Department from 1969 to 1972 and later went on to serve as a firefighter and EMT for the Hope Jackson Station of the Scituate Fire Department.
In the early 1960s Denis was a member of the West Warwick Civil Defense Agency, leading to a lifelong interest in radio communications. He was an avid Amateur Radio ham operator under the the call sigh K1STB. After moving to Maine, he was part of the Kennebec County Emergency Management Agency's Amateur Radio Emergency Service team (ARES) and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). His interest even led him to publish Scanner Guides in Rhode Island and in Maine.
Denis was a member of the National Rifle Association, as well as a member of the Monmouth Fish and Game Club. His hobbies included camping and photography. At one time he even owned his own photography business. Denis was a collector of Police, Firefighter and Federal Government mugs, patches and badges, and was always proud to show off his collection to anyone who was interested.
Denis was a firm believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and tried his best to spread the word of God to everyone he met. He produced the Family Bible Hour program for Rhode Island's WARV Station for 5 years. He served as a Deacon at the Penney Memorial Baptist Church for several years and for the last few years of his life he was a member of the Winthrop United Methodist Church.
Denis was pre-decease by his parents, sister Carol Bartlett and wife Linda (Campbell) Dandeneau of Rhode Island. He is survived by his loving wife Brenda Crocker, brother Robert of Humble Texas, sister Elaine Bjorklund and her husband Rob of Coventry, Rhode Island, his nieces, nephews and his god daughter.
A memorial service will be held for Denis on Tuesday August 17th, 2021, at the Winthrop United Methodist Church at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winthrop United Methodist Church or Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice
