HALLOWELL- The Rev. Donald S. Davenport, 86, of Hallowell, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 7th, 2022 with his wife, Jean and daughter, Kelly by his side.
Don was born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1936 and at the age of 7 was adopted by his parents, Stanley and Ruth Davenport, who pre-deceased him. After prep school, Don served proudly and honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fidelis. He then went on to graduate from Colby College. Later in life, Don went to Bangor Seminary to become a Minister & earned a Doctorate in Theology.
He was married to the love of his life, Jean who survives him, for 35 wonderful years! Don is also survived by his daughters, Kate Davenport and partner Cass, Kelly Davenport and partner Rob, 3 Stepsons, Tony Lerette and partner Jane, Michael Lerette and partner Amy, Kevin Rollins and partner Shelby. His 2 Sisters-in-law, Joan and Deb Morgan. His newly found family full of Brothers, Sisters, Nieces and Nephews from New England to California. As well as a host of Grandchildren and many other Family and Friends.
Don had many amazing accomplishments and careers. He was on the radio for RKO and a News Anchor for Channel 5 in Boston back in the ‘60s, interviewed Martin Luther King Jr. and met many other influential people, he was a Pilot, a Ski Instructor, a Professor at Ricker College, Asst. Commissioner of Corrections and a Musician – just to name a few! Most importantly, he was Pastor Don. He loved helping people and his ministry was so important to him for the last 50+ years. His motto was, “Love the Unlovable and Forgive the Unforgivable.” Don had an incredible life and if you were lucky enough to hear one of “his stories” – you were BLESSED!!
The funeral for The Rev. Donald S. Davenport will be held on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Manchester Community Church with a Celebration of Life to follow. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in honor of The Rev. Donald S. Davenport to your local church or shelter/food pantry.
