HALLOWELL - Donald W. Morrison, 53, of Hallowell died peacefully at home, after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. Don was born in Sumter, S.C., on June 15, 1957, the son of Donald M. and June (Paterson) Morrison. He spent his early years in South Carolina, the family moved to Rhode Island, where he graduated from West Senior High School in Pawtucket in 1975. After high school, Don served in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Boston. Don spent much of his adult life driving a truck over the road, and was proud to be a 'Roads Scholar' and a member of the million-mile club. He worked as a fleet supervisor for nine years at Allen's Transfer and Storage in Augusta. Don was employed for seven years by New Penn Motor Freight. He was a proud member of the Teamsters union. Don lived for more than 30 years in Maine. He was an avid lover of the outdoors, but possessed a profound bond with the ocean which provided him wisdom beyond his years. He was an avid deep-water fisherman. Don was a hard working man who always put himself last in order to support others and brought out the best in anyone who was lucky enough to know him. Don's broad smile, positive outlook and quick wit will be missed by his friends and loved ones. 'We have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine. But we've wandered many a weary foot since auld lang syne.'-- Robert Burns Don is survived by his parents, of Sumter; his wife, Ellen Corsano, of Hallowell; his daughter, Ainslie Morrison, son James Morrison, and his stepdaughter, Frances Harlow, all of Hallowell; siblings, Thomas Morrison of Sumter, Betty Dambach and her husband, Fred, of Syracuse, N.Y., Jim Morrison and his wife, Val, of Strafford, N.H. and Elaine Tullie and her husband, Stephen, of Coventry, R.I. A celebration of Don's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta.
