AUGUSTA- Donald Safford, 69, died Sunday, June 5, 2022 at his home after a short illness.

Donald was born in Augusta on December 20, 1952, the son of Charles and Juliette (Breton) Safford.

Donald grew up in Augusta, was educated in Augusta schools, and graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1972.

In 1976, Donald enlisted in the United States Army, where he served until his honorable discharge in that same year.

He loved being outdoors and enjoyed lounging in his hammock, whether it be relaxing, reading or napping. He also like watching movies.

Donald was predeceased by his brother, Michael Safford.

He is survived by his two children, Heidi Wharton of Randolph and Matthew Safford of Gardiner; the mother of his children, Kathy Trask, of Gardiner; his three sisters, Linda Morin and her husband, Richard, of Augusta, and Gloria Safford and Dianne Fouler, both of Connecticut.

A committal service with full military honors will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the committal shelter in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta.
