Doris Irene (Hodgkins) Morris, 85, of Fayette, Maine, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Born on March 19, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts, Doris spent her early years in Melrose, Massachusetts, before moving with her family to Sandwich, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1948. In 1986, she relocated to Fayette, Maine, where she resided until her passing. Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and great-aunt. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Helen Hodgkins; her husband, Harold Morris; her brother, Philip Hodgkins; and her cherished granddaughter, Emma Curtis. Doris is survived by her two children, Adrienne Lucey and her husband Tom, Jason Curtis and her step-son David Curtis; her grandchildren, Charlotte Lucey and Nathan Curtis; her brother, Stephen Hodgkins and his wife Jo-Ellen; her nieces, Melanie Lessard and Heather Hughes; and her great-nieces, Sophie and Isabel Lessard. Doris pursued higher education with dedication, earning a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's degree in library science from Bridgewater State College. While living in Sandwich, Doris worked for 22 years for Dr. John Lewis. Upon moving to Maine, she worked for 18 years at the Dept of Human Services. In 2004, her dream job became a reality and she finished out her career at the Maine State Library. Her love for animals was evident throughout her life, as she always had a dog and cat by her side. Known for her kindness and loving nature, Doris was a committed member of her community. She actively participated in the Women's Fire Auxiliary and served as both a trustee and secretary on the board of the Underwood Memorial Library. Doris was also a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Kent Hill, Maine. Her culinary talents were appreciated by many; she consistently contributed dishes to local public suppers and participated in the monthly "Keep Me Warm" dinners in Fayette, aimed at assisting those in need with utility costs. Doris's legacy of compassion, service, and love will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. A private service will be held for immediate family and a celebration of Doris's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Underwood library in Fayette, Maine, to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society or to the United Methodist Church.
