Obituary

AUGUSTA ? Dorothy Pearl 'Dot' Adkins, 85, of Augusta, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Graybirch Drive, after a short illness. She was born in Lewiston, Jan. 7, 1918, the daughter of Allie and Gladys (Benjamin) Chaffee. She grew up in Winthrop and attended Winthrop schools. Dot married Gerald Adkins, Aug. 15, 1936, and together they raised four children. Together she and her husband, 'Jerry,' owned and operated Jerry's Log Cabin, a well known local restaurant, for more than 25 years. Mrs. Adkins also enjoyed being a homemaker and loved visiting her children and grandchildren. She also liked writing and reading poetry. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her brother, Lewis Chafee; and her sister, Nellie Howard. She is survived by her son, Donald Adkins of Coopers Mills; her daughters, Geraldine Frost of Manchester, Sally St. Pierre of Sidney and Penny McCay of Florida; a brother, Harold Chaffee of Winthrop; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; along with several nieces and nephews. At Dot's request, there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Spring burial will be at the Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland 04101.
