Dorothy Pauline “Dot” Vickerson, 95, of Auburn, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born November 5, 1930, in Bangor, Maine, to George and Marianne Duquette, she was raised in Jackman, Maine.
After graduating from high school, Dot attended nursing school in the Greater Boston area, where she met her future husband, James Jerrol “Jerry” Vickerson from Winthrop, Massachusetts. Dot and Jerry married in 1954 and raised their four children, initially in Massachusetts and later in Maine.
Dot was an outdoor enthusiast who instilled in her family a love of nature and outdoor recreation. Summers at the family cottage on Sebago Lake, and the annual ladder golf tournament remain some of her family’s most treasured memories. Impish in nature and competitive in spirit, Dot had a knack for keeping others on their toes. Her sharp wit and spirited personality were matched only by her devotion to those she loved. Nursing was her calling, tennis and painting were her passions, and her family was her greatest joy.
Dot is survived by her daughter, Suzanne McManus, and her husband, Jim; her son, James Vickerson, and his wife, Kristy; nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the love of family and adventure she instilled in them.
Dot was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband; her son, George William “Bill” Vickerson; and her daughter, Debra Millett. She is survived by Bill’s wife, Tracy, and Debra’s husband, Ken.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers of Schooner Memory Care in Auburn, as well as the staff of Andwell Health Partners Hospice Care of Lewiston, Maine, for their support during Dot’s final months.
Visiting hours will be held at Roberts Funeral Home in Winthrop, Maine, on August 3rd from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Andwell Health Partners.
