Obituary

RICHMOND-Dorothy M. Skelton Young, 87, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. She was born in Richmond, Feb. 25, 1914, the daughter of N. Henry and Annie L. (Christie) Dixon Skelton. Dorothy attended Richmond schools. She married Vernon (Jack) H. Young and they lived in Richmond all their lives, with the exception of a short time in Youngstown, Ohio. She worked at Textron, in South Gardiner and Etonic Shoe Company, in Richmond, until her retirement in 1979. Dorothy was a ?family? person, enjoying her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She lived in the house she was born in, which her father?s family moved to when he was 9 years old. Mrs. Young was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Jack Young; her daughter, Dorothy A. Watson and her grandson, Jesse Dearborn; two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include four sons, Lawrence Young, and his wife, Rita, of Litchfield, Kenneth Young, and his wife, Martha, of Richmond, Vernon (Jack) Young, and his wife, Delores, of Richmond, and Gary Young, of Richmond; two daughters, Shirley Yeaton, and her husband, Francis, of Richmond, and Laverne Smith, and her husband, LeRoy, of Richmond; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great- grandchildren. Relatives and friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. Burial will follow in the Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.
