WINTHROP ~ Douglas E. Donahue, 67, of Winthrop, Died Tuesday April 11, 2017 at the Alfond Center for Health, after a short illness. He was born in Dover Foxcroft, March 29, 1950 the son of Maurice and Eleanor (Staples) Donahue. Doug lived in many places while growing up as work took his father to various locations around the world. Eventually, Doug returned to Maine and worked for Edwards Manufacturing, where he met his wife, Joanne, and later at Bath Iron Works. He was employed by BIW at the time of his death and had many friends he met while working there. Doug was an avid shooter, enjoying the shooting sports. He loved the outdoors, movies, and going out to eat. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by his friends and family. Mr. Donahue was predeceased by his wife, Joanne in 2004. He is survived by his children, Douglas M. Donahue, of Winthrop, Dale Simonds, of Randolph, David Simonds and his wife, Joette, of Augusta, and Kimberly Daigle and her husband, Donald, of Winthrop; his brother, Tom Donahue and his wife, Sally, of Boothbay; his grandchildren, Montana Daigle, Nick and Michelle Campbell, April and David Simonds and his great-grandson, Degan Gagnon. A celebration of life will be held at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Saturday April 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place later in the spring at the Glenside Cemetery.
