COOPERS MILLS ?Douglas Wesley 'Granka' Barton Sr., 62, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Unity, Oct. 30, 1939, the son of Lankford and Lucinda (Lafland) Barton. Douglas was a man who had a great love for the outdoors. He had his special way of being there for any of his family members, grandchildren and friends, or anyone who needed help, without ever being asked. His way of paying himself back was taking trips upcountry to camp and hunt. He was a special man who touched so many lives. He was a member of the Augusta Eagles Club. He was predeceased by his parents and a son-in-law, Steven Sirois. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 45 years, Laurence 'Laurie' (Gilbert) Barton of Coopers Mills; his daughter, Susan Jones and her husband, Jeff, of Manchester, and their four sons, Jason Sirois, Richard Sirois and his wife, Erin, Asa Jones and Ben Jones; his daughter, April Secord and her husband, Paul, of Bangor, and their sons Rene, Tyler, Devin and Jaron; his son, Douglas Barton Jr. and his wife, Suellen, of Pittston, and their daughter, Heather Libby; and his son, James Barton and his wife, Patty, of Whitefield, and their children, Jesse, Megan and Kayla. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Barton and his wife, Gloria, of Freedom; mother-in-law, Babe Gilbert of Augusta; brother-in-law, Norman Gilbert of Hallowell; an aunt, Agnes Barton of Waterville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At his request, there will be no viewing or service, and his ashes will be scattered upcountry. Memorial contributions may be made to HealthReach Homecare and Hospice, 150 Dresden Ave., Gardiner.
