FAYETTE - Edward M. 'Ted' Weld, 77, a longtime resident of Fayette and Holliston, Mass., passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, while working hard to recover from major surgery. He was born in Boston on March 20, 1931, the son of Gerald and Catherine (McGovern) Weld. Since his youth, Ted spent every summer at his aunt's home on Echo Lake with the exception of his time in the service. Ted and his wife, Linda, were married for more than 30 years and loved the lake so much that they eventually made it their permanent home. Ted was an extremely private but generous man, with a crisp sense of humor you often had to listen for. Mr. Weld was honorably discharged from the Navy following his service during the Korean War. When he returned to civilian life, Ted earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut. He spent most of his career self-employed as a sales representative, working throughout New England and representing manufacturers from around the world. Ted loved to work in his garage and around the lake property. He would spend most days at what he called 'putzing.' He eventually did get a lot done. He was a talented handyman and had the unique ability to design something in his head and then build it. Ted will be missed by Linda, his family, and all who knew him, especially those whom he contributed to their lives in ways he never knew. Ted is survived by his wife, Linda (Haynes) Weld; his daughters, Kim Frank and her husband, Phil, of Framingham, Mass., and Sharon Weld, of California; his son, Bruce Weld, of Florida; his stepson, Jeff Hobson and his wife, Nancy, of Holliston, Mass.; his stepdaughter, Debra Luby and her husband, Joe, of Milford, Mass.; his stepgrandchildren, Jessica, Joshua and Nicole Luby, and Casey and Jillian Hobson; and 'the gang' along Echo Lake Road.
