Winthrop ~ Eleanor G. Boettger, 86, of Annabessacook Road died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 after a long illness. She was born on June 4, 1930 in Windsor Locks, CT., the daughter of G. Marco and Rose (Barberi) Gragnolati. During World War II, her family lived in close proximity to Bradley Field, an Army Air Force fighter base. While a teenager, she volunteered as a Civilian Air Spotter to help ensure that no unauthorized aircraft entered the base’s airspace. Eleanor graduated from Windsor Locks High School in 1947 and worked for 8 years at The Hartford Accident and Indemnity Insurance Co. in Hartford, CT. She married Robert W. Boettger on September 12, 1953. They moved to Farmington, ME. in 1955 after her husband obtained a position with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as a Wildlife Biologist. They lived in Farmington for 14 years before moving to Mount Vernon, after her husband was offered a career advancement opportunity. She was Mount Vernon’s Health Officer for a number of years and did volunteer work. After her children were grown, she took a position as secretary at the Mount Vernon Elementary School for 11 years. They later moved to Winthrop after both she and her husband retired. Eleanor was active in the Maine Extension program in Farmington and Mount Vernon and was a member of the Friends of the Library in Winthrop. She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, and travels with her husband. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters; Gloria Driessens and Angela Christophy, and 2 brothers-in-law. Besides her husband of 63 years, Robert Boettger of Winthrop, she leaves a son, William Boettger and a daughter Ann Rioux and her husband Ronald all of Augusta; two nieces; Barbara Badore and her husband Paul, and Elizabeth Christophy, all of Forestville, CT,; also a grand-nephew joseph Badore and grand-niece Angela Badore, both of Forestville, CT.; as well as several cousins. Visiting will be held on Monday, August 29 from 6-8pm at Roberts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Rt. 133, Winthrop. Burial will be in the Kling Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer, or the Harold Alfond Center for Health, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME. 04903-0828.
