WINTHROP, MAINE NORTH BROOKFIELD, MA Eleanor May (Nordwell) Cuthbert, 78, of Winthrop, Maine and formerly of North Brookfield, Massachusetts, died at home Friday, November 1, 2002, surrounded by her family. Ellie was born July 10, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Ernest G. and Evelyn M. (Burns) Nordwell. She spent her childhood in Worcester and attended Worcester schools, graduating from Commerce High School in 1942. Ellie married Bert Cuthbert in 1952. They moved to North Brookfield, where they made their home and raised their family. Bert died in 1997 and in 1998 Ellie moved to Winthrop, Maine to be near her daughter JoEllen and family. Ellie worked for H.R. Salem Transport for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. She was a long-time member and past treasurer of the First Congregational Church North Brookfield Massachusetts, where she offered financial counseling to church and community members for many years. After moving to Maine, Ellie joined the Winthrop United Methodist Church Ellie enjoyed gardening and was an avid walker. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Wendy Cuthbert, who died June 8, 1973, her husband, Albert V. Cuthbert, who died March 21, 1997, a brother, Richard G. Nourse, who died July 8, 2000, and a nephew, Ronald L. Nourse, who died August 15, 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Candace Cuthbert of North Brookfield, Massachusetts and JoEllen Cottrell, and her husband Paul Cottrell, Jr., of Winthrop, Maine; a step-daughter, Judith Cuthbert Stevens, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Amy Cuthbert and Matthew Cuthbert of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Christopher Cottrell and Alexander Cottrell of Winthrop, Maine; a sister, Helen Nordstrom and her husband Helge Nordstrom of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, a brother, Robert E. Nordwell, of Northboro, Massachusetts, a sister-in-law Edith Nourse of Marlboro, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ellie?s life will be held Tuesday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. in North Brookfield at the First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, North Brookfield, Massachusetts. Following committal prayers at the cemetery, there will be a gathering for family and friends at the church.
