AUGUSTA ? Elinor L. Bangs, 86, of Sewall Street died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Gastonia, N.C. She was born in Pawtucket, R.I., Dec. 9, 1915, the daughter of Fred and Jessie Haley. Elinor was a licensed practical nurse at the Augusta General Hospital. She and her husband, Edward, moved to Arizona and attended Miracle Valley Bible College, receiving her doctorate in religion. She then went to work as a missionary, traveling to many areas to preach the Gospel, including much of Canada, Mexico and the United States. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Bangs, in 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Enid Murray of East Winthrop and North Carolina; a foster daughter, Roseanna Swan of East Winthrop and North Carolina; her nieces, Marsha Pykare of Monmouth and Margaret Pettengill of Augusta; her nephews, Ernest Bangs Jr. of Augusta and Mark Bangs of Old Town; and a grandnephew, Joshua Pykare of Monmouth. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Stuart Hilton will officiate.
