Elizabeth "Liz" Jean Butler Bailey Obituary (1934

Augusta - Elizabeth Jean Butler “Liz” Bailey, 83, of Hemlock Terrace, died Friday, June 30, 2017 at the MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, ME. She was born in Boston, MA on January 18, 1934, the daughter of Bradford and Theresa (Pringle) Butler. The oldest of three children, Liz grew up in Franklin, NH and attended Mary Burnham Prep School in North Hampton, MA and later Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. She married Donald H. Bailey in Franklin in 1953. Liz had a successful career for over 30 years as a Tupperware Manager and Distributor. As a hospice volunteer, she also worked with the Grieving Children’s Program. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed gardening, and took great pleasure in tracking her backyard birds. Liz especially loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending many dance recitals and sporting events. She was a longtime member of the South Parish Congregational Church UCC, where she served on the Board of Deacons, was an Acolyte Trainer, and a member of the Search Committee. Prior to moving to Augusta, ME in 1978, she lived in many places including Rolla, MO; Sudbury, Ontario; Hyde Park, VT; Peru, South America; Hancock, MI; and Barre, VT. She is survived by her husband Donald Bailey of Augusta; daughter Lisa White and her partner Bill Peabody of Williamstown, VT; three sons, Christopher Bailey and his wife Lori Koshowski of Glover, VT, Timothy Bailey and his wife Sharon of Uxbridge, MA, and Stephen Bailey and his wife Michelle of Hopkinton, MA; 11 grandchildren, Heather Godfrey and her husband Jay, Sarah Gallagher and her husband Patrick, Zachariah White, Ashley White and her husband Dustin Eckhart, Matthew Bailey, Cameron Bailey, Hannah Bailey, Hannah Martel, Grace Martel, Isabelle Bailey, and Gray Bailey; 4 great great-grandchildren; Myles Godfrey, Maeve Gallagher, Emmett Gallagher, and Eleanor Godfrey; a sister Beverly Sawyer and her husband Edward of NH and a brother Bradford Butler, also of NH; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6 from 11am to 12pm at the South Parish Congregational Church UCC, 9 Church Street, Augusta, where a celebration of Liz’s life will follow at noon. Burial will be at a later date in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, NH. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, 150 Dresden Avenue, Gardiner, ME, 04345 or to the Maine Parkinson Society, 359 Perry Road, Bangor, ME, 04401.
