WINTHROP - Elmer Lee Burns, 63, of Winthrop and formerly of Waterville, left his friends here on Earth Monday, June 2, 2008, with plans to 'Be with Jesus.' He was born Dec. 10, 1944, in Waterville, the son of Nelson Frederick Burns and Alice E. Buzzell. He spent his years growing up in New Hampshire, later moving back to Maine and living for many years in Monmouth. He made friends easily and touched the hearts of many. He enjoyed stock car racing as a youth. He enjoyed helping friends and neighbors, outings, sewing and woodworking. He loved going fishing and the Special Olympics. He also had a musical gift of playing the spoons. He always had a smile to share. Elmer was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Geraldine Brown. He will be missed by special friends, Edna, Phil, Sue and all the friends at Elm Towers in Waterville, Augusta Rehabilitation and Heritage Rehabilitation in Winthrop along with his cat, Angel. Elmer wanted to thank all the staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care for extending his life. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the Monmouth Ridge Cemetery, in Monmouth.
