AUGUSTA - Elwood C. Pollis, 90, of Augusta, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge in Augusta. He was born in Madison on June 14, 1920, the son of George A. and Evelyn (McKenney) Pollis. He was raised in Madison and attended Good Will Hinckley School. He lived in Fayette for a time before entering the Army Air Corps. He served from 1942 until the end of World War II. After the war, Elwood lived in several local communities, including Readfield, Winthrop and Augusta. He worked for the state in emergency management and later moved to Virginia and worked for the federal government, also in emergency management. He returned to Maine in 1997 to retire. Elwood enjoyed flying, hunting and fishing. He was a 64-year member of the Masons, Lafayette Lodge, in Readfield. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Pollis was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Elaine Pollis, in 2006. He is survived by his sons, Larry E. Pollis of Plano, Texas, and Wayne A. Pollis of Huntsville, Texas; five grandchildren, Heather, Shannon, David, Charles and Susan; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Cox Memorial United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HealthReach Hospice, c/o MaineGeneral, P.O.
