WINTHROP - Emily Ann Ward, 88, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and LTC – Gray Birch in Augusta, Maine.

She was born on October 6, 1937, in Winthrop, Maine, to Edna A. Wing (Bowler) and Aarold F. Wing, Sr.

Emily dedicated her life to her family and her home, creating a warm and nurturing environment for all who entered. She devoted herself to the role of a homemaker. Emily's passion for creating and nurturing was evident in all aspects of her life. She was an amazing sewer, skillfully crafting beautiful baby clothes and toys that brought joy to many. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Emily's home was the heart of many cherished family traditions, especially the holidays. She would go all out to make Christmas a magical time, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and love.

Emily will be remembered for her loving and caring nature, always putting the needs of her family before her own. While she possessed a gentle spirit, she was also known for her stubbornness, a trait that often underscored her strong convictions and determination. In her younger days, Emily found joy in gardening and tending to her houseplants, bringing beauty and life to her surroundings. She was also an avid reader, finding solace and adventure within the pages of books. Her creative spirit extended to knitting and crocheting, adding handmade warmth to the lives of her family. Emily also contributed to her community as a member of D.E.C.M.A, where she shared her expertise by judging music competitions.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Clayton Ward. Her parents Edna and Aarold Wing Sr, brothers Irving Wing and Francis Wing sisters Diana Wing and Janet Polley, sons-in-law Dale Lyons and Jason Steele.

Emily is survived by her devoted daughters, Ann Polley and husband William of Winthrop, Bonnie Steel of Winthrop and Shannan Ward of Livermore Falls. Niece; Jenny Farrington and companion Brad Morse of Winthrop. Grand children; Sarah Childs and fiance Cody Knowlton of Belfast, Darrell Childs and wife Liz of Auburn, Kyle Steele and Partner Chris Gagne of Winthrop, Adam Lyons and wife Courtney of Fayette, Corey Brayall of Winthrop and Hillary Bittues and daughter Ada. Great-grand children; Alex Childs, Abby Childs, and Emily Lyons. Long time friend James Barrows of Augusta, and many other assorted relatives and friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through everyone who she cherished, and they will forever hold her memory dear.

Services for Emily will be held graveside on Friday, August 14, 2026 @ 11:00 am at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop. Reception to follow at Ann Polley’s house 233 Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
