Ethelaine "Lanie" (Kennedy) White passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the age of 94. Lanie was born on April 8, 1930 in Jacksonville, Maine to Alexander "Alec" Kennedy and Ethel (Cook) Kennedy. She graduated high school from Washington Academy in East Machias and soon after met the love of her life, Wilbur (Tin) White, at a dance in Cutler, Maine. They were married on June 30, 1956 and were inseparable thereafter, building a happy life together.
Several years later they bought a house in Barkhamsted, CT where they lived for many years and where they adopted three "blonde-haired, blue-eyed" girls. Lanie loved being a mom and homemaker while the girls were young and later she drove the school bus. She was a self-taught seamstress and enjoyed making matching outfits for her girls and teaching them how to make doll clothes. She also loved baking breads, cookies, and other sweets, and was renowned for the Swedish tea ring she made for friends and family at Christmas. She was an avid walker and never slowed, even in her later years.
Just as in life, Lanie was Tin's co-pilot on excursions they made in their Cessna 172, and especially looked forward to their trips home to Maine. She spent summers on Gardner Lake in East Machias, where she loved hosting and visiting with family and friends. After retiring, Lanie and Tin moved to Pittston, Maine, but continued spending summers at the lake or at their home in Jonesboro.
Lanie was a loving wife, mother, and "Honey" to her grandchildren. She loved "Downeast" and lighthouses. If you asked her favorite color, it was always pink! Above all, she loved and cherished her family. She will be most remembered for her kind ways, her sense of humor, and her cheerfulness. We are heartbroken and will miss her dearly.
She leaves behind her husband Wilbur "Tin" White, daughters Laurie Bozek (fiancé Ron Rinehart), Tina White, and Andrea Garrepy (husband Tom). She also leaves grandchildren James & Darcy Bozek, Mikala & Hannah Garrepy, Cassy Kluz, and Erica Stanhope, sister-in-law Anne White, and many nieces, nephews and other family. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Robert Kennedy (wife Eleanor), Carroll Kennedy (wife June), Kenneth Kennedy and Charles Kennedy (wife Mary), and sisters Dorothy Bryant (husband Walter), Kathleen "Deeda" Kennedy (husband Lloyd) and Irene Porter (husband Alfred).
Lanie's Celebration Of Life will be held at the Jacksonville Campground Tabernacle on August 10th at 10am. All are welcome!
