Obituary

AUGUSTA – Floyd V. Lovejoy, Jr., 94, of Ridgewood Drive, died on August 29, 2026 at home with family members present. He was born on June 9, 1932 in Charleston, Maine, the son of Floyd and Charlene Lovejoy. He spent most of his childhood years in Pittsfield, Maine, graduating from Maine Central Institute.

Floyd always had a love of flying and aircraft. He started as a radar intercept officer with the Maine Air National Guard at Dow AFB, Bangor, Maine flying F-89s and F-94s. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism following the crash of an F-89. Floyd then became an air traffic controller with the FAA which he thoroughly enjoyed until his retirement 33 years later.

Floyd was a member of the Green Street United Methodist Church (UMC). He was also a member or former member of the Jaycees, Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, the Freemasons, the Augusta Shrine Club, and the American Legion.

Floyd was predeceased by his parents Floyd Sr. and Charlene Lovejoy, his wife Nita (Goodrich) Lovejoy of 68 years, and his younger brother Elwood Lovejoy, Sr. He is survived by his sons David Lovejoy and his wife Lisa of Augusta and Dennis Lovejoy and his wife Kellie of Fairborn, Ohio; grandson Derek Lovejoy; granddaughter Victoria (Lovejoy) Grzybowski; step-granddaughter Kimberly Horn and her husband Kriston; and step-grandsons Grayson and Noah Horn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Gloria Lovejoy and nieces Lisa Cody and Kris Barron and Elwood Jr.’s wife Elaine Lovejoy.

He was a very dedicated husband, father, and family man who will be missed by everyone.

Visitation will be held at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church Street, Augusta, ME on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:00 am. A service will follow at 11:00am at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home. Private Burial be at the Village Cemetery, Pittsfield.
