Obituary

WINTHROP - Frances Louise Hunt, 76, died unexpectedly, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, March 16, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Mount Vernon on July 30, 1932, the daughter of Clarence C. and Ethyl L. (Strickland) Hunt. A lifelong citizen of Winthrop, Frances attended Winthrop schools and graduated from Winthrop High School. Following high school, she played a big part in the ongoing success of what used to be Wilson's Candy Store in Winthrop, and more recently retired from Maine Merchants in Augusta. A devoted member of Winthrop United Methodist Church, Frances was both an active participant among her church family as well as a prominent contributor in the Winthrop community. It didn't matter what Frances was asked to do; it might be to help plan a church supper or social activities that extended, not only to the church, but to the community at large. Frances was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Clarence C. Hunt Jr.; and a sister, Lois (Hunt) Kaklegion. She is survived by two nieces and three nephews, Sharon Dixon and her husband, Malcolm, of Windham, Diana Curry, of Sylmar, Calif., Stanley Murphy and his wife, Janet, of Standish, and William Shorr and David Horr, both of Portland; several great and grandnieces and nephews; as well as her church family, whom she loved dearly and who meant so much to her. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A celebration of Frances' life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Winthrop United Methodist Church, Main Street, Winthrop, with the Rev. Don Hegeman officiating. The church will host a reception immediately following the service. Burial will be in Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop, later this spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frances' name may be made to the Winthrop United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 136, Winthrop, ME 04364. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
