Obituary

WINTHROP -- Freda Hinds Day, 101, of 114 Route 133, died peacefully on Sept. 2, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Freda was born on June 7, 1912, in New Portland, the daughter of Paul and Ethel (Rundlett) Hinds. She grew up in Oquossoc, moving to Monmouth in 1928, where she met and married Everett Day on July 30, 1930. She worked in the family grocery business, M.E. Day and Son, for many years. She later worked at Peck's Department Store, in Lewiston, and then Central Maine Power Co., in Augusta, until her retirement. She was a member of the Monmouth Methodist Church, and active in the Monmouth Order of Eastern Star. The most important thing in her life was her family and grandchildren. She and Dad attended every activity and sporting event involving them. She continued to be involved with her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and led a very active and fulfilling life until her death. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett, of 741/2 years; grandson Peter Mercier; granddaughter Kimberly Mercier; two sisters, Irene Maxwell and Dorothy Covieo; and two brothers, Carroll Hinds and Walter Hinds. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Mercier, of Winthrop; four grandchildren, Cheryl, LeeAnne, Craig and Scott; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Honoring Freda's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A private family graveside celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
