AUGUSTA- Gary Clayton Goodrich, 90, passed away at his home in Augusta on July 14, 2025. He was born in Pittsfield to the late Clayton Ham Goodrich and Mary (Salisbury) Goodrich.
Gary graduated high school from Maine Central Institute, class of 1953 as Salutatorian. Following high school, he attended Lehigh University for 1 year before enlisting into the United States Army. He proudly served his country before going back to college to receive his bachelor’s in engineering from University of Maine, Orono. Gary was employed by the Government Services Administration, Government Center in Boston as a Civil Engineer. He happily retired in 1980.
Gary deeply enjoyed his time spent watching any and all sports. He excelled in basketball while at Maine Central Institute as well as his time in the service. He liked to research many topics of interest, especially U.S. History and sports history.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Juanita Goodrich Lovejoy, and half-brother, Harry L. Goodrich.
Gary is survived by his half-sisters, Annabelle Goodrich Hayes and her husband John V. (Jack) Hayes, and Charlotte Goodrich Collins and her husband Dr. Donald R. Collins. His nieces and nephews David Lovejoy and wife Lisa, Dennis Lovejoy and wife Kellie, John C. Hayes, Jason L. Hayes, Daniel Collins, and Valerie Wherley. His great nieces and nephews, Victoria, Derek, Kimberly, Anna, Quinn and Cooper.
Gary’s graveside service will be held on Monday August 4th at 11AM at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield, where he will receive military honors. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1 Church Street, Augusta, Maine.
