READFIELD - Gary R. Plossay, 59, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, from a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 15, 1947, the son of Barbara (Emerson) Manwell and stepson to Walter H. Manwell. Gary grew up in Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1965. He attended Bliss College and Assumption College, and graduated from the University of Maine. Gary spent most of his professional career working with children and adults with economic, physical, mental and behavioral challenges. In 1994, he started a private rehabilitation agency for individuals with disabilities, specializing in brain injury. With the assistance of a fabulous care staff, Employment Support Services Inc., grew to one of the largest rehabilitation agencies in Maine. Gary sold his business to care for his stepfather, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After the death of his father, Gary spent his winters in Fort Myers, Fla., and the rest in his beloved Maine, enjoying his lifelong passion for antiques. Gary is survived by his aunt and uncle, Norman and Carolyn Manwell of Winthrop; cousins Cindy (Barrows) Hall and her husband, Gary, of Monmouth, Patrick McGuire and his wife, Gail, of Augusta, and Ron Manwell of Winthrop; as well as several nieces and nephews; with special love to his partner of several years, Judith Haar; and many special and dear friends. A graveside service celebrating Gary's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
