Obituary

With profound respect and immense sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Gene Hall, who embarked on his eternal journey on May 27, 2026. Gene, a beacon of strength, integrity, and boundless love, was born in Augusta, ME, on August 24, 1950, to Frank and Josephine Hall. His life was a testament to the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Gene, a patriot at heart, served in the US Army HAWK Missile Battalion in Korea from 1968 to 1970, after graduating from Winthrop High School. His dedication and discipline were also evident in his professional life as a long-haul trucker, a role he performed with unwavering commitment. Despite the demands of his job, he never allowed it to overshadow the love he held for his family. His wife and confidante of 56 years, Donna, their children, Chris and Kevin, and their cherished grandchildren were the sun around which his world revolved. Gene's relentless dedication to his family was matched only by his love for his community in Mount Vernon, Maine. He had this unique ability to be there even when you didn't know you needed him. As Kahlil Gibran once said, "Work is love made visible." This was true of Gene, his work, whether driving long-haul trucks or supporting his community, was his love made visible. His quiet, steady, and powerful presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he touched. In honor of Gene's inspiring life, we will be celebrating his legacy on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2-6pm at the Hall Homestead in Mount Vernon, ME. We cordially invite you to join us with your favorite dish and a story to share as we remember and cherish the beautiful moments spent together. We encourage you to visit Gene's memorial page to leave memories and upload photos of our beloved Gene.
