Mt Vernon- George Alexander Rivard, 71, passed away September 5, 2023, in Brigham and Womens, Hospital, Boston, following a courageous 24 year battle with Cancer. Born June 4, 1952, in Augusta, Me. Son of George and Doris (Thibodeau) Rivard.
George was educated at St. Mary's School and graduated Cony High School in 1971. After graduating, George traveled across country with friends, settling in Scottsdale, Arizona for a couple of years where he attended Community College and worked at Motorola. George returned to Maine and settled in Mt. Vernon. George worked in the paper mill industry in Jay until his retirement.
George was an avid sportsman, self-made, self-taught in so many ways. He was never alone, could make a friend in any situation and had a true relationship with our Lord.
George was predeceased by his parents and his sister Monique.
George is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley J. Rivard. Sisters Leah (Bill) Bowden, Terri (Bob) Parquette, and Julie (Jack) Hagan, and brother Peter Rivard.
George's Memorial service will be held at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home 1 Church St. Augusta, on Wednesday September 13, 2023 at 11am. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Bowden's Home, 208 Hospital St. Augusta.
