Obituary

WINTHROP-George William (Bill) Vickerson, 64, of Winthrop passed away after a brief illness surrounded by his wife and children. He was born February 19, 1959, in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the son of Jerrol and Dorothy (Duquette) Vickerson. He spent his early childhood years in Winthrop, Mass and North Sebago, Maine, where he spent time at Potter Academy. His family moved from Winthrop, Mass to Winthrop, Maine where he graduated high school from Winthrop High School in 1978. He spent much of his life in Winthrop, ME with some younger years spent in Moosehead and Carrabassett Valley after graduating, pursuing his love for the outdoors. He started dating the love of his life, Tracy Steele, in 1982. They were married on May 23, 1987. Together they had three children and Bill often said that having kids was one of the only things in life that made sense. Bill has nine grandchildren whom he loved spending time with catching frogs, fishing, swimming, camping, sledding, and skating. We will all cherish the many trips and wonderful memories at camp Sebago, Hermit Island, and St. John. Bill spent countless hours outdoors with family and friends. He especially enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing, swimming, skating, hunting, gardening, snowmobiling, and cooking over an open fire. Bill was a very talented stone mason. He had an artistic ability that could see and achieve "the big picture" when most couldn't see his vision. He was also a jack of all trades and was quick to help anyone that needed a hand. Bill was a brave and fearless man who lived his life in the moment. He has always looking for the path less traveled and doing things his own way. He was a hard worker and passionate about the things he loved, including his children and grandchildren. He was a man of few works but was quick with a joke and loved to make people laugh. Bill Vickerson was one of a kind and 100% the real deal. Bill was predeceased by his sister Debra Millett, his father Jerrol Vickerson, his uncle Thomas Vickerson, his father-in-law Gerald Steele, his brother-in-law Jason Steele and his sister-in-law Carlene Steele. Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tracy Vickerson, his children Jack Vickerson, Emily Vickerson (Nia Wilkinson) and Marianne Gillespie (Corey Gillespie) and his nine grandchildren Miah, Zion, Nyla, Julian, Zayla, Zara, Scarlett, Kyah, Jada, and good boy King. His mother Dorothy Vickerson and mother-in-law Barbara Steele. His siblings and in-laws Jim and Kristy Vickerson, Suzanne and Jim McManus, Ken Millett, Mark Steele, Matthew and Darlene Steele, Becky and Bob Ouellette, Bonnie Steele, Jim and Sandy Steele. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, along with special niece Tia Pomerleau and nephew Robert Vickerson along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also grateful for the lifelong friendships he shared with Mike Wing, Mark Pettengill, Chuck Thomas, Keith Chick, and Jay Reynolds. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr. American Legion Post #40, 117 Bowdoin St. Winthrop.
