AUGUSTA - George Linwood Worden, 75, of Cony Road, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Maine Veterans Home. He was born in Dexter on February 21, 1933, the son of Frederick and Mildred (Hewett) Worden. He was raised on Washington St. at the north end of Bath and graduated from Morse High School in 1951. George served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed at various places but had worked the longest at Hyde Windlass in Bath, and later at Crowe Rope in Warren. He was skilled at many things and could build a house or disassemble an automobile and put it back together. As a young boy, he once made all the Christmas gifts for each of his brothers and sisters, carving toys out of wood. He also served as an alter boy at the Catholic Church in Greenville. George loved fishing, camping and helping others with whatever projects they had going. He especially enjoyed the Scottish Festival at Thomas Point Beach, and attended this function annually with his family. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Rochelle Shaw Worden, on Dec. 7, 2007, and also a sister Virginia Perry of Goffstown, N.H., and a brother Ramon Worden of Parlin, N.J. He is survived by a son, Geoffrey Worden, and his wife Sue of Pittsfield; three daughters, Marlen Worden of Oveido, Fla., Martha Worden of Lincoln and Maureen of Seattle, Wash.; stepdaughter Michelle Burt and her husband Darren of Augusta, two stepsons, John Willette and his wife Mary of Readfield, and Jason Willette and his wife Aja of Kissimmee, Fla.; his brothers Joseph Alan Worden and his wife Skoshi of Sierra Vista, Ariz., James William Worden and his wife Charlene of Round Pond, Gary L. Worden and his wife Patricia of Somerville, Stephen 'Ricky' Worden and his wife Mary of Oahu, Hawaii, and Lawrence 'Michael' Worden and his partner Ann Peasley of Georgetown; his sisters, Marilyn 'Patricia' Yount and her husband Richard of Bradford, Ohio, Carol Busby and her husband Royce of Phelan, Calif., and Barbara LeCropane of Beach Park, Ill.; a sister-in-law Ann Worden of Parlin, N.J., and brother-in-law Lorenzo J. Perry of Goffstown, N.H.; several beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held Wednesday, April 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. Rev. Peter Inchcombe will officiate. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
